A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 69-year-old woman was found dead at a house.
Police were called just before 7pm on Thursday to a home in Brighton, East Sussex, where officers discovered the woman’s body.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and remained in custody overnight to be quizzed by detectives and for further enquiries.
The 17-suspect and the woman were known to each other, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said.
In a bid to reassure the local community, the force said it is currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and “there is no risk” to the public.
Photos show a forensic officer going into and out of the cordoned-off house as a uniformed officer stands guard.
Officers continued to guard the taped-off property on Friday morning.
A police spokesperson said: “A boy aged 17 has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman aged 69 was found at an address in Withdean, Brighton.
“At 6.55pm on Thursday 7 January police were called to a residential address in Cedars Gardens, Withdean, Brighton, where the woman was found deceased.
“The 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.
The boy and woman are known to each other.
“Police are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to the crime and there is no risk to the local community.
“The investigation, which is being carried out by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team working with local officers, is at an early stage and no further information is available at present.”
